BANG BANG Copenhagen, S/S 2012

4.24.2012

The ever quirky and youthful BANG BANG Copenhagen designs for Spring/Summer 2012 have captured my heart! Using unusual color combinations for these seasons like featuring black, white, and grey with pops of bright colors has them standing out. Playful twists like stripes, piecing, and a re-accruing cat also make this collection whimsical. The overall look reminds me of a circus theme tied together beautifully with black sequins, bow ties, and 3D embellishments. A very cheeky collection indeed, I can see any kid enjoying themselves dressed in these fashions!

Frolicking Fun, Autumn 2011

4.20.2012

see my online portfolio here

When I think of Autumn, it's hard not envision the forest and friendly woodland creatures like deer, bunnies, and owls. Each of the seasons are equally fun to design for, unique and special in their own way! But I especially have a soft spot for Autumn because you can have fun with layering pieces and I always encourage a little print mixing! For last Autumn's Wonderkids 2011 collection at Kmart, I embraced all of the above and combined them with some very rich jewel tones. Chocolate browns, purples, and pinks served as the main color palette while bright greens and teals served as accent colors in the collections color story. Graphics and prints alike were very detailed, busy, and had a playful hand drawn feel to them. Of course the usual girly touches of ruffles, pleats, and puff sleeves were present, but fabrics like corduroy and denim helped give them a more rugged feel. Frolicking Fun is for the girl that loves to be outdoors yet still look cute while being comfy.

Wovenplay, Autumn 2011

Remember how I fell in love with the talented Amanda Pratt and shared a few of her visual goodies with you all in yesterdays post? Well not only does she do amazing photography in general, turns out she dabbles in directing too! And the little gem of a video above was what lead me to a new (for me) and fabulous children's brand, Wovenplay. Self described as "sustainable couture", I love everything they are about and have to offer. Will definitely be keeping a close eye on them for inspiration in the future. Oh how I wish I had heard about them when I was living in New York!

I am in love with newly found photographer, Amanda Pratt and judging by the pictures above, you can surely see why! Each one of her photo sessions are completely unique, from the grading to the way they are styled, location, and props. It's easy to see how versatile she is and how she manages to capture the different moods from each of the little models. Truly inspiring work and check out my other blog, Made With Love, to see some of her other images that have me swooning.

Hollie Chastain

4.13.2012

A sneak peak into what sparked my imagination for the Beatnik Boys Autumn 2012 collection. Artist Hollie Chastain has captured my heart with his work! The use of his bold colors and shapes alike drew me in initially. I like that his work has a layered feel to it with the use of various textured papers, scribbles, and cut outs. His work has a collage vibe that I really identify with. All of these elements combined are what have helped shape and mold my collection into what it is becoming.
