Nixie S/S 2013 Preview

6.25.2012

This afternoon I had the pleasure of attending Nixie's S/S 2013 Preview in which they introduced Nixie Stardust. I first came across Nixie when looking online for London based and independent brands. I instantly fell in love with their concept, making fashionable children's clothing using vintage fabrics. Now if you've been a fan of them in the past, you will notice that this collection of theirs is a little bit different from the previous ones. Come S/S 2013, Nixie will be launching its first ever organic cotton jersey collection! Still staying true to the brands integrity of being sustainable, this new collection focuses on color combinations and celebrates structure in knits. Inspired by Nicole's (the designer) love for David Bowie and his infamous The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, Nixie Stardust was born!

Nixie Stardust consisted of eight pieces in two eye catching color ways. Neutrals were paired with bright pops of neon and color blocking was seen in each and every garment. The overall feel was one of futuristic playfulness, with emphasis on curved lines and piecing. It was interesting to see how structured the silhouettes were for knits, but they worked beautifully. Nixie Stardust also showed a range of fun hair accessories to sit alongside the collection.

Nixie's usual shop was transformed for the special occasion, complete with a little bubbly and homemade peanut butter cups made by the lovely Rose herself! They were delicious by the way! Staying true to their branding, recycled newspaper tassels dangled from the ceiling along with neon triangles and snippets from their S/S 2013 campaign. I also had s

Nixie also had it's A/W 2012 collection proudly on display which was a real treat. Soon, these beautiful creations will be available for purchase! I especially loved the fabric mixing of thick, winter materials with touches of silk scarves like the dress pictured above. Chunky knits with accents like crochet and glitzy details were seen throughout this bohemian style collection. Fabulous headpieces with fur, feathers, and lace were also a plenty. Very different indeed from S/S 2013, but equally great I think.

I wrapped up my visit with a listen to the Black Casino and The Ghost, who played live for us. It was a lovely surprise and they even sang a cover of David Bowie's Space Oddity to end the show! I had a great time and thanks again to Nicole and Rose for the invite! Can't wait to see where this brand goes next.
